One challenge with shopping for fabric on the internet is that it can be hard to stop browsing. Thousands of prints and patterns are available to scroll through, spanning every color and price range. For fabric enthusiasts, though, that's not really a drawback. Below are ten online fabric stores that are worth diving into.

1. Spoonflower
Spoonflower is the go-to for distinctive prints that are unlikely to be found in a local fabric shop. Its extensive collection features designs from independent artisans, giving shoppers the chance to connect with the person behind the fabric and, in some cases, request custom work. The company's printing process uses water-based pigment inks and dyes and is positioned as sustainable and eco-conscious.

2. IKEA
IKEA is known for affordable furniture and Swedish meatballs, but it also sells fabric. The range of patterns and colors on its site is not extensive, but it can be a solid choice for budget-friendly basics.

3. Etsy
Each fabric-shopping trip on Etsy is different. Because individual sellers list their own items, new options appear daily. The site is also a remarkable resource for vintage fabric sold by the yard. The main downside? The selection is so broad that it can feel overwhelming.

4. JOANN Fabrics
JOANN Fabrics has long been a familiar name in fabric, and it remains one of the largest. Shopping its online store from home is an option, and the site carries a wide array of colors and material types for various projects. Sewing supplies can also be added to the same order.

5. Blackbird Fabrics
Blackbird Fabrics, based in Vancouver, Canada, ships quality fabrics around the world. The woman-run business is committed to its community and donates a portion of its revenue to a different local nonprofit each month. New fabrics are released weekly, so it's worth checking back regularly.

6. Calico
Calico operates dozens of physical design shops across the United States, and its high-quality fabrics are also available online to customers everywhere. While Calico offers plenty of basics like cotton for crafters, it is particularly known for drapery, outdoor, and luxe fabrics.

7. Fabric.com
As the name suggests, fabric.com is a place to find fabric. It is an Amazon subsidiary, so the shopping experience feels familiar to Amazon customers. Both the selection and the price range are extensive. The site's fabrics can also be purchased through Amazon.com, meaning Prime members may get free two-day shipping on some orders.

8. West Elm
West Elm is widely recognized as a furniture and home goods retailer, but fewer people may know that it also sells fabric. The selection is small and consists of upholstery-weight fabrics—heavy twills and velvets, for example—that work well for recovering a chair or cushions.

9. Minted
Minted, like Spoonflower, is a marketplace for independent artists. Shoppers who find a design they love can read the artist's bio and even follow the artist on social media. Posting photos of a finished project on Instagram? Be sure to tag the designer.

10. Marimekko
A word of caution: Marimekko is not ideal for those on a tight budget. The famous Finnish design house's more affordable fabrics start at around $50 per yard, so it is a splurge. Still, for fans of its distinctive geometric and floral patterns, the price may be worthwhile to bring a piece of Marimekko into the home.
